Making our grand debut, Collabora will be attending electronica next week in Munich for the first time! Diving into the world of electronics alongside the leading examples of the industry, we're excited to partake on all fronts. Taking place from November 15 to 18 at the Trade Fair Center Messe München, we'll have a booth to showcase our demos at B4.428.

Drop by and our engineers will be delighted to walk you through one of our three demos. Highlighting different projects from our multimedia, machine learning and core teams, you'll gain a behind-the-scenes look at different solutions we've developed.

  • PipeWire & Bluetooth® LE Audio: Fully open source Bluetooth® LE (Low Energy) Audio solution implemented using Linux, BlueZ, PipeWire and WirePlumber, and running on two UP Squared 6000 developer boards with Intel® Wi-Fi 6E AX210 (Gig+) modules.

  • Panfrost ML-based video compression: Novel video compression pipeline that runs on a complete open source stack using Libre Computer's Renegade Elite Rockchip 3399 SoC, achieving the same visual quality as the H.264 standard while only using one-tenth of the bandwidth.

  • Apertis platform showcase: A look at Apertis, a ready to use, end-to-end open source software infrastructure, suitable for multiple uses including embedded IoT applications, edge computing, full-feature systems, container or flatpak runtimes, and SDK environments. This showcase will use an Intel® NUC (NUC8BEK) as system controller, along with a Raspberry Pi 4, Renegade Elite (Rockchip RK3399), and UP Squared 6000 (Intel Atom) as targets.

The opportunities for insights don't stop there, as two of our very own will also be presenting talks on PipeWire and Machine Learning:

  • PipeWire: the multimedia swiss army knife for Automotive
Presented by George Kiagiadakis - Tuesday, November 15 - 13:30 UTC

Addressing the audio, video and camera needs of a modern car can be a complex problem to solve, requiring media to be routed from one place to the other and through multiple components, efficiently, while respecting a set of policies. PipeWire is a powerful, yet simple, multimedia IPC framework that can be used to implement any kind of multimedia routing service, like an audio server or a video capture portal, featuring a built-in security mechanism, with native support for containers, and efficient media transport that leverages modern hardware features. This talk will present all that PipeWire can offer to help you implement effective solutions that address the multimedia use cases of automotive systems.

  • Open Source drivers for Machine Learning accelerators
Presented by Marcus Edel - Wednesday, November 16 - 10:30 UTC

There is an increasing need to bring machine learning to a wide range of hardware devices. Current frameworks rely on vendor-specific libraries and optimize for a narrow range of server GPUs. Deploying workloads to new platforms, such as mobile phones, embedded devices, and accelerators, requires significant manual effort. Because of this, companies are opting to choose vendors' downstream kernels and userspace. This means that they are less likely to benefit from Collabora's work on upstream components. In this talk, we will walk through the process of building a computer vision pipeline on top of a completely open-source stack: open-source GPU driver, machine learning framework, and models.

With multiple demos and talks to fill your time at electronica, our team is ready to share our latest developments and are more than happy to chat all things open source. Drop in for a friendly 'Hallo' at booth B4.428!

See you in Munich!
