Latinoware 2009
Free Software in Latin America
Latinoware is the second main South American FLOSS conference. It happened in Foz do IguaƧu, Brazil, at the famous triple frontier (Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina), October 22-24 2009.
The conference was aimed at Portuguese/Spanish-speaking people in their native language, but some of the main tracks were in English and are aimed at foreigners. (The conference site is in Portuguese and Spanish, with portions in English.) Latinoware 2009 is the 6th Latinoware and expects 4000 participants. The schedule of talks is now available.
Collabora's Helio Chissini de Castro organised the KDE/Qt-related track of talks. He also gave a talk about modern development strategies, discussing where cultural issues doom project deadlines. As de Castro explains, "bigger classical companies forget the big step between project and development, which is having the development team ready and aware of the tools they will use to develop -- AND ensuring that project managers are aware that the time to choose or learn these tools should be scheduled into the project time. Currently, this step steals valuable project time, and creates unnecessary delays."
